There’s a phrase at the heart of our work:

“Awaken the warrior within.”

It’s more than words.

It’s a truth I’ve lived, taught, and carried into every room where a woman stood uncertain of her own strength.

For me, it began as a whisper decades ago — something I said to myself in moments when I needed to remember who I was.

It became the foundation of what I do today, my classes, my book, and the movement that grew from them. And over time, it found its way into the voices of the women who trained beside me, rose with me, and reclaimed their power in their own time.

What It Really Means

“Awaken the warrior within” isn’t just encouragement. It’s a call to return to yourself.

Not to the version others expected, managed, or minimized — but the one that’s been waiting, quietly, fiercely, beneath the noise.

This phrase lives at the core of RISE United Foundation and Thora Greyhawk. It’s embedded in our values, our rituals, and the hearts of the women we serve.

Why I’m Naming It Now

In the world of empowerment, words move. They evolve. They get shared.

And lately, I’ve noticed this one — our phrase — appearing in places far beyond where it began.

We take it as a compliment. And also, a reminder:

That the source matters. That lived experience has a voice. That integrity can stand on its own —without fanfare, without noise, without the need to prove.
